Educational Resources

In 1940 the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) established a school on farmland in North St. Eleanors on the outskirts of Summerside.  The story of the interaction between Air Force personnel and town residents is unique and at the same time similar to other BCATP sites.

Are you interested in what life was like in a Canadian town during the years 1939-1945?  Take this opportunity to explore national Canadian themes as they played out in the local setting of Summerside PEI, and compare it to what happened in your hometown.

PEIancestry.com is a membership website comprised of a multitude of databases that give researchers a unique resource.  The material presented is predominately about Summerside and area but includes much of value to genealogists searching for ancestors from any part of PEI.

Do you have an ancestor who served with the 105th Battalion in World War I? The MacNaught History Centre and Archives are seeking volunteers to gather information about the men of the C Company, whose names are listed in this publication. Also, any descendants are invited to submit photographs or documents that can be used in the compilation of data for a historical resource that will be available for the public.

Several radio dramas were produced by Wyatt Heritage Properties Inc. in 2011 as part of the annual Storytelling Festival.  The stories, complete with sound effects, are based on true accounts of Island history that listeners will find entertaining and educational.

The Open Suitcase Series was developed around subject matter in the Island school curriculum and requests from teachers for classroom speakers. The different programs can be used in two ways: viewing the written material online, and by borrowing one of the program suitcases which contain not only the written material but a number of hands on resources. The suitcases can be borrowed free of charge for several weeks by calling the programming office at 432-1298.

The professionally produced 3D walkthrough brings the viewer into the midst of the exhibit to experience the wonder and history of the Christmas trees, toys and food. It is the hope of Culture Summerside and Wyatt Heritage Properties Inc. that you will enjoy exploring this unique exhibit that will stimulate memories and creativity.
