The City of Summerside, through Culture Summerside,

are the caretakers of several museum and archival collections.

These include:

The Wyatt Collection: Thousands of artifacts that belonged to the prominent Wyatt family spanning several generations, which includes objects displayed at the Wyatt House Museum.

The PEI Fox Museum Collection: Artifacts related to the history of PEI’s global fox breeding industry.  Many of the objects are on exhibit at the PEI Fox Museum located in the Summerside Interpretive Centre.

The Bishop Machine Shop Collection: The Bishop Machine Shop boasts an amazing collection of lathes and machining tools which belonged to the inventive Bishop family. Objects are on view in the Bishop Machine Shop Museum in situ.

The Realm Collection: Named after John “The Realm” McNeil. McNeil was a local sports writing legend who’s weekly column appeared in the Journal Pioneer as “The Realm of Sport” for 56 years. This collection includes local sports memorabilia which had been collected by the community over several years. Some of the collection is on exhibit on the second floor of Credit Union Place.

The MacNaught History Centre Archival Collection
The archival collection is based on the vast amount of textual material that was moved from the Wyatt House shortly after the Wyatt Heritage Properties came into existence.  Another large collection that was deposited came from the Bishop Machine Shop.  Other materials have been donated by local organizations or individuals. The archives also retains census records, cemetery records, vertical files, digital interviews, photographs, archival fonds and microfilm.

Educational Collection: Objects of historical value that are used in programming and hands-on learning.
